The general membership of the Glyndon Community Association will meet for its quarterly meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, at the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department.
The agenda will include election of officers and the board, a discussion about the Glyndon Post Office, and an update on the special Love & Diamonds in the Valley event at Sagamore Farm.

The U.S. Post Office has reversed the decision to suspend General Delivery at the Glyndon Post Office.
John Cordell, manager of USPS Operation, initially announced that USPS would reverse the decision at a public meeting organized by Historic Glyndon Inc. on January 6, 2012. About 100 Glyndon residents attended the meeting at the Forbush School off Central Avenue.
William L. Ridenour, re-stated the decision in a January 18, 2012 letter to the Glyndon Community Association. “After careful consideration, it has been decided to rescind the January 30, 2012 cut-off date for General Delivery at this time,” Ridenour said in the letter. “This will enable management officials to investigate the ability to install sufficient P. O. Boxes for the affected residents. This action should allow all concerned a rightful resolution.”
About 70 Glyndon households received notices in late December that their General Delivery service would end January 30, 2012. Residents were instructed to either purchase a Post Office Box or request home delivery from the Reisterstown Post Office. Residents requesting home delivery would switch from the 21071 zip code to the 21136 zip code.
In addition to concern about General Delivery, many residents already using Post Office Boxes at the Glyndon Post Office expressed concerns at the January 6 meeting about the deteriorating quality of service to P.O. Box owners in the past two years.
The GCA is forming a committee, including a number of residents who signed up at the meeting, to follow up on the General Delivery and other Post Office concerns.
Historic Glyndon, Inc. has organized a community input meeting with Postal Service officials on Monday at the Forsbush School. Per the HGI president, Kathy Ziese, the meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Post Office representatives have agreed to come for one hour from 8 – 9 p.m. to hear community concerns.
HGI and the Glyndon Community Association (GCA) encourage all Glyndon residents to attend the January 9 meeting to learn more and share their concerns and support for the neighborhood.
The Glyndon Post Office sent a letter to about 70 households on December 30 informing them that they no longer qualified for General Delivery, and informing them that they needed to either obtain a post office box or contact the Reisterstown Post Office (21136) about receiving home delivery. The letter provided residents only 30 days to make the changes.
At the time of the letter, the Glyndon Post Office did not have enough post boxes for all of the General Delivery customers. Glyndon has no individual mail boxes and has used General Delivery since the community was founded in 1873.
Along with HGI and many individual residents, the GCA has and continues to investigate and object to the sudden decision to stop General Delivery service with only 30-days notice.
GCA sent a formal letter to the head of the Baltimore Region for the U.S Postal Service Friday, January 6, asking for this decision by a local postal official to be reversed. Barring a reversal we are asking for an extension of the 30-day deadline so we can better understand the decision, its ramifications and how to respond. A separate letter is being sent to our congressional representatives asking them to intervene on our behalf.
